keto hot cross buns. These low carb hot cross buns are a healthy alternative to enjoy over the Easter season. Made with a Fathead dough recipe, they’re best fresh from the oven.
Ingredients for keto hot cross buns
- 2 cups (200g) almond flour
- 1.5 cups (100g) whey isolate – unflavoured
- 1.5 tsp xanthan gum
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 2 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp allspice
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg
- 1/4 cup (50g) sugar substitute
- 1 cup (250ml) heavy cream
- 1/4 cup (50g) butter – melted
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1/4 cup (60ml) water
- 1/2 cup (70g) powdered sugar substitute
- 1.5 tsp lemon extract (or juice)
- 1.5-2 tsp water
01- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients for the buns.
02- Pour within the cream and melted butter. Whisk together.
03- Begin pouring within the water while you stir. it’ll form a thick batter.
04- Use wet hands to make 10 smooth dough balls.
05- Place the dough balls onto cookware lined with parchment paper.
06- Bake at 375°F / 190°C for 10-15 minutes or until the very best could also be a golden brown.
07- While the buns bake, whisk together the icing ingredients.
08- It should be a thick gel-like consistency.
09- Once the buns are out of the oven, allow them to chill.
10- Use a sandwich bag or piping bag to place a cross across the very best of the buns.
